Are you a retired or former law enforcement officer? Does the prospect of patrolling along the Atlantic Ocean or other bodies of water sound appealing? Maybe you like the idea of working with farmers and ranchers in a rural, agricultural community? Or maybe you miss the challenges of urban policing? If this is you, then consider becoming a Reserve Deputy Sheriff with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. Newly state certified persons are also encouraged to apply and gain invaluable experience while awaiting a full time position.
Reserve Deputy Sheriffs are unpaid volunteers who give of their time for the betterment of the community. They are responsible for providing law enforcement service in the diverse neighborhoods of Flagler County. Reserve Deputy Sheriff’s act under the color of the authority of the Sheriff and provide services that support the programs and policies of the Office of the Sheriff.
About the Agency
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to providing the highest quality of service to the citizens of Flagler County. We believe in a Guardianship Community-oriented approach to policing and strive to address the quality of life and crime concerns of our citizens.
The Community Policing Division, or uniform patrol, is the most visible Division of the Sheriff’s Office. These are the deputies patrolling the neighborhoods and businesses and are often the first deputies to respond to calls for service. These deputies truly follow our Agency motto, “An honor to serve – A duty to protect.”
The Community Policing Division is divided into three districts:
District 1: Beaches – The Beachfront community and Barrier Island. (City of Marineland – Hammock – Painters Hill – Beverly Beach – City of Flagler Beach).
District 2: Palm Coast – The Urban Core of the County. (City Limits of Palm Coast)
District 3: Flagler West – The west side of the county including all ranches and farmland (Espanola – Favoretta – Daytona North – Flagler Estates – St. Johns Park – Korona – City of Bunnell).
Minimum Selection Criteria
Must have or be able to obtain a valid Florida driver’s license prior to hiring
Must be currently Florida Certified in Law Enforcement or have the ability to obtain certification within 6 months
Must not have been convicted of any felony or misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement
Must not have received a dishonorable or general discharge from any branch of the Armed Forces
Must have a high school diploma or GED. Associates or Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Must show capabilities of performing the minimum standards appropriate to this agency
