Become a Mentor to High School Students!

Are you passionate about education and youth? Would you like to make a difference in your community? Just 1-2 hours a week can shape a student's future. We are recruiting volunteers (professionals and graduate-level students) to mentor high school students who are enrolled in Scholar Career Coaching Mentoring Program.

The Scholar Career Coaching Mentoring Program is designed to give students the opportunity to interact with passionate individuals who share similar academic and career interests. Students receive advice and assistance including but not limited to academic achievement, conducting job searches, interviewing techniques, resume building, finding scholarships, and improving English skills.

Program Description
Scholar CC motivates students to pursue an education beyond high school. We do this by providing complimentary hybrid college and career services including; group mentoring, scholarship assistance, standardized testing college admission fee waivers, FAFSA assistance, and SAT tutoring. In addition, we bring outside professionals and motivational speakers to share inspiring stories and to provide important community resources to our students.

Who We Serve
Inquisitive 11th and 12th graders, attending Title I schools in South Florida with a focus on high potential ESL (English as a Second Language) and First-Generation students. We practice equity and inclusion and welcome all interested students no matter their background.

Your Role as a Mentor
Following our group mentoring model, each Mentor will be paired with 1-3 mentees for the program year starting in October and ending in April. Mentors will spend a minimum of 1-2 hours working with their mentee group weekly. Whether it’s helping with setting up goals for the semester, providing organizational tips, creating a resume/cover letter, mock interview prep, exploring college and career options, finding and applying for scholarships, or being a listening ear, our Scholar CC Mentors play the role of a coach, motivator, supporter and friend.

There are Two Ways to Mentor!

Hybrid: Mentors have the opportunity of meeting in person with their mentee(s) during our bi-weekly campus sessions. On the weeks that we are not on campus you will meet with your Mentee group virtually.

E-Mentoring: Mentors and mentees meet virtually for the duration of their match.
