Virtual Volunteering - Telephone Reassurance
Tools Needed: Telephone, Computer, Internet Access, and joy for talking to people!
The Tele-Talk program was created as a way to reach to seniors during the COVID-19 global pandemic. Volunteers will make phone calls to older and disabled adults that have contacted Elder Options through the Helpline in the past. Volunteers will be trained to provide information about health-related online classes, information about the Elder Helpline, COVID-19, emotional support, and well-being check-ins.
We will provide you with a set of individuals to call for initial calls. At the initial call, you will have the opportunity to ask the individual if they would like to be continually called on an ongoing basis. A script will be provided for the calls and each call must be documented on our Google Forms.
All Elder Options Volunteers must meet and complete the following criteria:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Complete and submit a volunteer application- paper or online.
- Complete a mandatory background screening.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Attend a Volunteer Orientation. This includes online and phone orientations.
In addition to the EO screening, Tele-Talk Volunteers must also complete the following:
- Online HIPAA training and certification that the class was completed and passed
- Read and discuss the PSA 5 Suicide Prevention Training Manual
- Read and sign a TeleTalk Reassurance Volunteer Confidentiality Agreement
- Read and sign a TeleTalk Reassurance Volunteer Agreement
- Read and discuss the TeleTalk Script with the Volunteer Coordinator
Elder Options operates in the following 16 counties in North Central Florida: Alachua, Bradford, Citrus, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Hernando, Lafayette, Lake, Levy, Marion, Putnam, Sumter, Suwannee, and Union.
