Wimauma Civic Center Hurricane Support Station
We are seeking volunteers for the Comfort and Hygiene Support Station in Hillsborough County. You will play a crucial role in aiding those affected by Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton with tasks including greeting individuals at the check-in table and collecting and sharing basic information. You'll also sort and organize donations, assemble hygiene kits, and help with meal and clothing distribution, guiding individuals to find what they need while fostering a welcoming environment. Throughout your shift, you’ll engage with community members, listen to their stories, and offer encouragement, helping to build a sense of connection among those facing challenges. At the end of the day, you’ll assist with clean-up to ensure the space is ready for continued support. Your compassion and dedication will make a significant difference in the lives of those seeking comfort during this difficult time. Thank you for being part of this vital effort!
If you can wear close-toed shoes, a shirt representing the organization you are affiliated with if you have one (i.e., USF, Tampa CERT), or just a plain color T-shirt, that would be great. You'll be outside, so it is important that you wear sunscreen and bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. You can also wear a hat, sunglasses, shorts, and/or comfortable pants would be ideal. If looking to bring items to donate, we are in need of Laundry pods, washcloths, towels, hygiene kits, NEW unused undergarments, and bedding.
Anyone offering to assist with disaster response opportunities is responsible for their own lodging, meals, and other expenses. We do not offer housing/lodging (or) know of any lodging options for non-residents.
