Opportunity Details

Board Member

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the St. Augustine Humane Society! We want every pet to have the chance to live happy, healthy lives with their loving families. Our programs and resources are designed to fight against the most common reasons pets are relinquished to shelters. By providing these lifesaving resources to the community, we are able to help reduce the need for animals to enter shelters, helping end needless euthanasia.

What is the role of a Board Member?

Board Members play an essential role in the success of the St. Augustine Humane Society. In order to help the most pets in our community as possible, we offer our resources and programs at reduced or free pricing. Because we do not accept funding from the government, we rely on the support of our generous community. Board Members are a vital part of our fundraising efforts, and help connect the Humane Society to their network.

Do I have the qualifications needed to become a Board Member?

The most effective Board Members understand the importance of our mission and strive to provide the Humane Society with all of the resources and guidance it needs to be successful. If you are highly motivated, organized, have experience with fundraising and event planning, and love to network, then you will be an effective Board Member.

How much time must I commit as a Board Member?

As a Board Member, you are always seen as a representative of the St. Augustine Humane Society and are expected to uphold our mission and values accordingly. In addition to monthly meetings, there will occasionally be workshops throughout the year Board Members are expected to attend. Because Board Members play a vital role in the financial success of the organization, they are expected to help with and attend fundraisers and special events throughout the year.

What are the responsibilities of a Board Member?

  • Actively fundraise and seek new partnerships in the community
  • Serve as a spokesperson on behalf of the St. Augustine Humane Society
  • Use network of colleagues and friends to promote the needs of the organization
  • Make personal financial contributions (minimum annual dues of $500)
  • Attend monthly board meetings and occasional workshops
  • Work in good faith with the staff and other Board Members
  • Stay informed about what’s going on in the organization and take responsibility for making decisions on issues, policies, and other matters

Our mission. The St. Augustine Humane Society promotes healthy, responsible, lifelong pet ownership by serving the medical and rehabilitative needs of companion animals in our community. Our programs are designed to strengthen human-pet relationships and reduce the need for pets to enter shelters. Our goal is to ensure all pets have access to quality veterinary care, prevent overpopulation, and prevent animal suffering.
