Opportunity Details

AmeriCorps Program

Through AmeriCorps, we have the unique opportunity to provide in-home respite care to our caregivers for their loved ones. I am recruiting member volunteers who will be contracted for a year (from September 1st, 2020 to August 31st, 2021) to provide respite care in our caregivers’ homes for about 8-12 hours a week, for a total of 450 hours over the course of the year. Schedules are flexible (mornings/afternoons/evenings/weekends), but it is preferred to have some weekday availability and a few hours on the weekend to offer. Volunteers act as a companion for a veteran or military family member living with Alzheimer’s disease or other related dementias. Duties may include doing activities, going on walks, engaging in conversation, light meal prep, etc. During this time the caregiver would be receiving a break. No personal or medical assistance is required to be provided.

If volunteers are not able to go into the home due to the current pandemic there are other ways to still be an AmeriCorps member through our virtual services. We would love for you to bring your unique talents to serve this population! This could include leading our virtual activities (music, bingo, crafts, you-name-it!), social media content, administrative work, motivational creations for clients, or even hands-on work in the community through distancing.
