https://marion.floridahealth.gov/programs-and-services/emergency-preparedness-and-response/medical-reserve-corps/index.htmlThe Marion County Medical Reserve Corps was established after the 9/11 terrorism events by the Marion County Medical Society. The Marion County Medical Reserve Corps is now coordinated by the Marion County Health Department. The Medical Reserve Corps was developed in cooperation with community partners such as the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Division of Emergency Management; Marion County Health Dept; Emergency Medical Services Alliance; Marion County Fire Rescue; Munroe Regional Medical Center and Ocala Regional Medical Center. Many allied health professionals such as pharmacists, nurses, licensed practical nurses, counselors, clerical, medical assistants, and radiation physicists participate actively and receive multiple hours of training. The Medical Reserve Corps has responded to public health emergencies including working at Points of Dispensing (PODs) in 2009 and 2010 to help vaccinate the community for H1N1 (swine) flu. The MRC serves a county community of 1,663 square miles, five incorporated cities and a population of 375,908. The MRC will help respond to special needs shelters, points of dispensing for mass prophylaxis, alternate medical treatment centers and other disasters and public health emergencies. We need many people from all types of jobs and backgrounds to help us respond to the community needs at the time of a disaster. Members receive training regarding public health preparedness response to help prepare them for the MRC activities. We encourage all prospective volunteers to register with the MRC by going to https://aspr.hhs.gov/MRC/Pages/index.aspx
